About the Item

This fabulous, period Louis XIV (The Sun King) buffet has been made from European oak and stripped at some point in its history. During Louis XIV’s reign (1643-1715), furniture makers considered oak to be the premier wood and buffets were given special placement in the most obvious room in the Chateau. This buffet has an elegant yet imposing shape and size, typical of this period. The curved front has a galbe shape with canted corners. The sides are S-Scroll in their shape and are a seamless continuation of the canted corners. There is linear ornamentation throughout in the form of C-Scrolls with floral and foliate centers. All this rests upon two front bun feet and two block feet in the back, also, typical of this period. With its beautiful curving lines, this stripped oak buffet will be an elegant addition to a prominent room of the home.
