1950s French Neo-Classical Style Hand Painted Cabinet / Hutch / Sideboard

About the Item

This is a 1950s hand painted French cabinet with neo-classical styling. I think my favorite feature besides the faux marble columns and wire door fronts, is it’s size. At 71” tall, it could be striking in many places, even a bathroom. It is unmarked, and has quite a bit of adjustable shelving. From the floor to the top of the bottom portion is 36”. The width of the top potion at it’s deepest is 16”. It is two pieces. My shipping is running two to five weeks. Not available for local pick up. For islands like Nantucket, we ship to a receiving facility in Hyannis.

Beacon Hill Collection Neo-Classical Style Fruitwood Cabinet by Kaplan Furniture
By Kaplan Furniture
Located in Kennesaw, GA
I love this for two reasons….the attention to detail for which Kaplan Furniture was known, and the size. This piece is not monstrously large as are many contemporary pieces, which makes it very versatile. It could work from dining to office to bath to foyer! Note the dental molding and Greek key apron! This is a breakfront from the Beacon Hill Collection...

Brutalist Sideboard Oak, France, 1950s
By Charles Dudouyt
Located in Kaštel Sućurac, Splitsko-dalmatinska županija
This sculptural sideboard holds a quiet monumentality—its façade a study in balance, depth, and geometric relief. Two symmetrical doors are adorned with deeply carved concentric medallions, each centered within a bevel-edged square that projects from the surface like a wooden echo. Between them, five central drawers offer rhythmic contrast with their horizontal fluting, lending a linear tension to the rounded volumes flanking them. In the style of Charles Dudouyt, this piece reflects the postwar fascination with medieval forms reinterpreted through modernist clarity. The carved motif—a recessed bull’s-eye framed in architectural moldings—recalls the rustic abstraction seen in French design of the 1940s and ’50s, where massing, form, and shadow did the work of ornament. Carved from solid oak, the cabinet is grounded by splayed bracket legs that introduce a subtle kinetic lift. Their flared stance balances the robust body above, suggesting movement held in suspension. The drawer pulls are brass discs, minimal in gesture yet warm in tone, allowing the sculptural surfaces to speak. Inside, the cabinet offers generous storage behind paneled doors, while the drawers glide with dovetail construction and timeworn ease. A visible fissure on one of the door medallions...
