About the Item

An early 19th Century British Victorian two-part secretary, finely hand-crafted in painted pinewood. The piece is crowned with a distinctive swan-neck pediment and an elegant dentil molding, hallmarks of the Victorian era’s architectural influence on furniture design. The glazed upper cabinet features two doors with diamond muntins, opening to reveal a striking interior in deep brown-red paint, fitted with adjustable shelves. Below, the slanted writing flap conceals compartments for correspondence and documents, while four graduated drawers provide ample storage. The secretary retains its original polished brass hardware and keys, enhancing both function and authenticity. The dark-painted pinewood, enriched with timeworn patina, underscores the Victorian taste for bold contrasts and historic character. Refurbished yet preserving traces of age, including minor fading and scratches, this piece embodies the craftsmanship and refinement of England between circa 1840–1860.
