About the Item

19th century French walnut neoclassical petit file cabinet is truly an unusual find! Appearing to be, at first glance, a large nightstand, it is in fact much larger at typical buffet height, and features a single exterior drawer above a cabinet that opens to reveal four pull-out open face interior drawers. Perfect for storing paperwork and filing, it does so with inimitable style! The sumptuous French walnut has been crafted with a double pilaster design down the front with pyramidal plinths, tapered and fluted motifs, with louvered carvings above scrollwork just above the lower plinth. The door features three finely molded panels, and the door and drawer are accentuated by exquisitely cast bronze key guards with an integral bale pull for the latter. Bun feet provide support. Circa 1870s Measures 39.5H x 19W x 18.5D.

19th Century French Henri II Neoclassical Walnut Confiturier, Cabinet
Located in Dallas, TX
19th century French Henri II neoclassical walnut confiturier, cabinet is a stellar example of the petite buffet with one door affectionately called the confiturier because of its original design being intended to store confit jars in the kitchen. At some point it became obvious that a very useful miniature buffet like this would be ideal for other rooms, and the genre blossomed. This example, rendered from sumptuous French walnut, features neoclassical architecture including turned columns carved with fletching on the face fitted with Doric capitals on each cornerpost, flanking the stylized pyramidal heraldic crest on display in full relief at the center of the cabinet door. Fletching also appears on the drawer facade above, with the entire affair graced with fine molded detail. Ideal as a bathroom vanity cabinet...
