19th Century Napoleon III Black Lacquer and Brass Display Cabinet

About the Item

A fine example of French craftsmanship from the Napoleon III era, this black lacquer and brass display cabinet, circa 1870, exudes elegance and sophistication. The upper cabinet features two internal adjustable glass shelves, and the vitrine opens to offer a flat birds-eye display surface. The cabinet’s glass front and sides offer a clear view of displayed items, while the front-opening door with a key provides practicality and security. The lacquer is in exceptional condition, highlighting the care taken in its preservation. The brass trim throughout the cabinet enhances its luxurious quality. The cabinet is further adorned with a gold rope trim inside the cabinet and vitrine. Reflecting a minimalist aesthetic influenced by Japonisme—the 19th-century European fascination with Japanese art and design—this cabinet features simple, clean lines that set it apart from the more ornate furniture of the period. The combination of glossy black lacquer and understated brass accents creates a sophisticated and elegant appearance, embodying the era’s blend of opulence and restrained elegance. This exquisite display cabinet is a testament to the design and craftsmanship of the Napoleon III period. It’s ideal for displaying collectibles in living rooms, dining areas, or retail settings. In bedrooms or dressing rooms, it adds elegance as a jewelry display, while in offices or libraries, it showcases books or decorative objects. Its timeless design makes it a standout in entryways seamlessly blending antique charm with modern style. H=59.5 in. W=41 in. D=24 in. 75 lbs.
