About the Item

Bargueño of columns with foot bridge, Spain, seventeenth century. Wood and bone. With old original base. Bargueño of Salamanca model, also called columns, with hinged front cover, decorated on the outside with metal plates cut and pierced, applied on a background of red cloth (frequent in this type). The lock shield is complex, and fixed and balusters typical of the time on the sides. The exterior decoration is completed, sides with handles arched central lentil and long cut hinges profile also very typical of this model. The heads of the nails are on the front take the form of scallops worked in relief, some new current in this kind of writing desks. It stands on one foot vintage type bridge, made of wood carved and ebonised. While this model of desktop columns exists from the time of Philip III, early this century, in this model we see many features that indicate a later date, a separate mature model of mid-century.
