About the Item

A Regency period bookcase in figured elm and grain-painted ‘elm’ and adorned with brass accents. The fall-front at the center opens to reveal a writing surface, drawers, and compartments. Attributed to George Bullock. The brass grillwork on the upper doors is nearly identical to that found on a cabinet by Bullock in the V&A (accession # W.33:1 to 4-1980). The use of native timber, the brasswork, the presence of architectural columns, and the design of the feet are all hallmarks of Bullock’s work.
