About the Item

A unique Chinese Cabinet in Red Lacquer and gilt finish with beautiful butterfly hardware. This cabinet appears to be 20th century but does have attributes of a 19th Century piece that may have been painted and additions added at a later date but overall we feel safe to call it 20th Century. This handsome piece would work well in any interior such as Traditional, Modern, or Contemporary. It is very functional and has ample storage. It could be used as a bar or liquor cabinet. It would make a great TV Cabinet as well. Structurally sound with age-appropriate wear. Some paint loss on the sides of the cabinet but not distracting. The bottom of the left door slightly pushes inward but overall good. The door is functional. Dimensions: 75" H x 44.5" W x 21.25" D

Chinese Red Lacquer Shanxi Wedding Cabinet with Painted Motifs and Brass Lock
Located in Yonkers, NY
A Chinese red lacquer wedding cabinet from Shanxi Province, with hand-painted floral and object motifs, brass hardware, and interior storage. This rectangular cabinet stands on straight legs with a shaped apron and side stretchers, presenting a balanced, architectural silhouette softened by its richly aged red lacquer surface. The two doors are framed within a molded panel and adorned with faded decorative imagery, including vases on stands, scholarly objects, and floral compositions, rendered in subtle gold tones that echo through the surface patina. A traditional brass lock plate secures the doors, which open to reveal a shelved interior with two drawers and a hidden lower compartment tucked beneath a removable panel. Traditionally, cabinets of this type were gifted to brides and used to store dowry items or household linens. This example retains its original function and design details, including the internal layout typical of wedding cabinetry. With its vibrant lacquer, decorative symbolism, and worn elegance, this Shanxi cabinet...
