Dutch 18th Century Glazed Top Display Cabinet with Shelves above, Cabinet below

About the Item

Dutch oak glazed top, two part display cabinet with bold moldings, astragal glazed glass panes surmounted by carved leaf moldings extending into the top cresting frame of the shaped central door. The lower part of the cabinet is enclosed by four ogee shaped carved floating panels and a bold base molding. The feet have been replaced. The interior of the glazed top is lined in a light pink padded silk fabric with loose long padded boxes (that can be removed) so items can be raised on each shelf without resorting to less elegant risers. The boxes can be removed and stored should they not be needed (they are not attached in any way). There are four shaped shelves (including the bottom shelf) for displaying one's collection. This is a particularly effective display cabinet as the canted sides are astragal glazed as well as the front door allowing side as well as front light. The top glass panel on each side is arched copying the shape of the central door and cresting top. Circa 1790.
