English 18th Century Gentleman's Dressing Chest of Drawers, Fitted Top Drawer

About the Item

English Georgian Chippendale mahogany gentleman's chest of four graduated drawers. This fine chest has a mahogany fitted top drawer with sliding baize inlaid dressing panel that when slid back reveals small drawers and open compartments for dressing paraphernalia and shaving razors, as well as a hidden side sliding drawer for writing implements- ink and pens. The dressing slide was used by the butler to set out one's clothes in the morning. In the center of the fitted drawer is a hinged mirror that slides up for perfect viewing. This high quality chest has oak lined drawers carved quarter columns, ogee bracket base and molded top, superb brass handles and escutcheons. One backboard replaced, Circa 1770. 42" wide x 22 1/2" deep x 32 1/2" high

    Replacements made: The baize lining to the dressing slide has been replaced, but it is what would have been originally there. It is expected that the baize will be replaced periodically through the life of the chest. One backboard replaced (see photo). Wear consistent with age and use. This chest has been through our workshops and is in fine condition, ready to be used and enjoyed on a daily basis, the drawers all work well and smoothly.
