French Louis Philippe Period Figured Mahogany Chest of Drawers with Marble Top
About the Item
French Louis Philippe period finely figured mahogany chest of four drawers with original marble top. In this period most of the chests of this design were fairly large, but this one is only 38 1/2 inches wide which makes it unusual. The timber used has been carefully matched so the effect is almost like a waterfall through the drawers and the sides have been matched to form an elegant large feather. The chest has never been refinished so the depth of patination adds to its richness. The handles were added at a later date. Because of its smaller size this chest can be used in a variety of situations, but it will always be a focal point as the cleanness of design and elegance of the timber and marble make it a stunner. Mid 19th Century.
