A very fine Empire commode in a light-colored Cuban/ West Indies mahogany with satinwood inlays featuring an upper drawer with small inlaid lidded compartments with original turned knobs. Line inlays continue throughout the plinth, with the top banded in ebonized trim. The top drawer is inlaid with a pair of opposing griffins whose tails sprout oak leaves. Ariadne had saved Theseus from the Minotaur by providing him with an escape route...
