Early 20th Century French Louis XIV Carved Bleached Oak Cabinet from Normandy

About the Item

This elegant antique oak cabinet was crafted in Normandy, France circa 1920. The provincial "Confiturier" (or jelly cabinet in English), stands on a straight bottom plinth decorated with a carved shell motif over the scalloped apron. The tall buffet features a carved drawer dressed with a iron knob over a single door with carved raised panel, and embellished with a shell decor at the top and bottom. The inside reveals a middle shelf for ultimate storage. Each side including the back is hand carved and finished, so the cabinet could stand alone in the middle of a room. The Regence style buffet is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, and adorns a light bleached patinated finish with wonderful character and distress. This sturdy cabinet would make a wonderful storage unit in a powder room to store towels, soap, or could be used in an entry as a pedestal to hold a vase or a bust. Key included. Measures: 19.5" W x 19" D x 39" H.
