About the Item
A gorgeous, impressive and very rare antique matching pair of inlaid mahogany Astragal glaze cabinet and console table in really lovely condition. Most likely made in England in the late Victorian / early Edwardian Art Nouveau period, this beautiful pair can be used with one on top of the other or with the cabinet wall-mounted and they will add wonderful craftsmanship, colouring and bygone sophistication to any interior.
Made of beautiful richly-toned quality mahogany, this pair has fabulously detailed golden boxwood inlays and displays beautiful craftsmanship throughout. The table has stunning square reeded legs with very decorative matching feet and finials and recessed panelling with boxwood inlaid bordering and the central inlaid shell motif to match the cabinet above. The top of the table has reeded edges and a wonderfully intricate boxwood inlaid border.
The matching cabinet features outstanding Astragal glazed lockable doors and has three shapely height-adjustable shelves. It has reeded side balusters to match the table legs and beautiful boxwood inlay bordering and detailing throughout, including the central shell motif below eye-catching dogtooth-patterned detailing to the shapely crown.
The cabinet has felt on the underside as it has most recently been used standing on the table, but it could also be wall-mounted above the table to make the most of the table, as was probably originally intended.
All in all this is a fabulous and rare pair of outstanding quality, which will be a knockout and add stunning quality, colour, class and craftsmanship to any setting.
CONDITION
This pair are in very-good-to-excellent condition, especially for the age and the detailing they display. The glass is in outstanding condition with no scratches or cracks and the only minor flaws are the odd to-be-expected blemish, nick and scratch and an historic and well-done repair to the left hand side of the crown of the cabinet, which you have to look for to notice. The left door has top and bottom locks with the right door having a latch lock adjoining the left one. We would recommend that the cabinet is wall-mounted or at least affixed to the wall if sitting on the table as with both doors fully open it leans forward. Overall this is a fabulous pair in really wonderful condition and if well looked after they should be just as impressive in many more decades if not centuries to come - please see the photos.

View AllAntique Serpentine French Marquetry Cabinet Kingwood Marble Ormolu Napoleon III
Located in London, GB
A magnificent, gorgeous and lavishly decorative antique French kingwood inlaid marquetry serpentine cabinet with marble top. Dating from around the 1920s and made in the Napoleon III style, this stunning and practical scene-stealer makes a very useful cabinet and will enhance any setting with its fabulously ornamental and luxurious bygone Gallic aesthetic.
Impressively sized, wonderfully multi-toned and having a beautifully flowing and rare serpentine shape with substantial rounded front corners and feet, this show-stopping cabinet is adorned throughout with rich golden kingwood veneer interspersed with wonderfully intricate floral and border inlays of boxwood and other multi-toned woods. It has a heavy and shapely chamfered white marble top with pale grey and pink striations, which is not fixed but sits perfectly on top. The cabinet is finished with highly decorative and eye-catching gilt ormolu metalwork embellishments.
The hours of exacting work taken to craft such a fabulous piece is staggering to think about. As well as being such an attractive piece it is also very practical, having a large upper drawer with ormolu pulls and a door revealing two shelves.
