About the Item

An Italian ornately painted wood console chest with faux-marble top from the 19th century. This antique buffet from Italy features a shapely front with bowed mid section flanked within curvy recessed sides, with a slightly overhanging top which mimics the shape beneath. The case houses two doors at front, which opens to reveal a shelf for storage within. The cabinet is painted and trimmed with four panels, each featuring rococo style accents along their inner framed portions, and center panels have a male figure and female figure, each within their own panel and seated with umbrella raised above their head. A scrolling acanthus leaf and foliage motif are painted to adorn the skirting. This piece is raised nicely upon bracketed feet. The primary coloring of the cabinet is teal and tan. This 19th century Italian console cabinet, with it's shapely figure and decorative appearance, will function beautifully in an entry hall or living room.

A French carved and painted wood buffet console, with original marble top, from the 19th century. This antique cabinet from France features the original marble top, rectangular in shaped with rounded front corners, atop the wooden case which houses a pair of half-sized drawers set across the top, over a pair of nicely carved recess-panel doors, set within rounded front side posts (each carved with an elongated recessed panel). Both of the beautifully carved panel doors have curved top edges, each making up one half of a gently sloped arch, adding subtle fluidity to this piece. There are is a rectangular-shaped recessed panel at each chest side. The cabinet is raised on rounded feet at front (an extension of the front side posts) and squared feet at rear. The original merlot colored marble is complimented with a custom blue/gray finish with hints of cream and a taupe accent trim.
