Japanese Antique Red and Black Tansu / Cabinet / 1868-1912s / Wabi-Sabi Mingei

About the Item

This is an old cabinet called " Tansu" in Japan. It is a lower type than a normal Tansu. The original red color was used for a long time in an old house with a hearth, so it turned into a natural red-black color due to the accumulation of soot. The balance of black and red is very beautiful, and it is a unique item. It seems to be around the Meiji period, and the material is made of cedar. The drawer width is wide, and the depth of each drawer is different. It is a color caused by natural changes that cannot be expressed in new products, and scratches and peeling of paint are added, making it look like a work of art. It's simple and beautiful just to put it as it is, but it's a good idea to decorate it with a vase or accessories on top. It is recommended as an item that adds the beauty of wasabi to the interior.
