With my 20 years of experience as a buyer, I will re-propose Japanese antiques from a new perspective. This is a very old large Tansu made in Japan. It is a furniture of Meiji era (Circa 1860's). The material is cedar wood. The design is ultimately simple and lean. This simplicity embodies Japan. The sides and back of the furniture suggest that it was originally painted with persimmon tannin, which was black with a layer of soot on top. However, due to the environmental effects and use of the front section, the persimmon tannin has fallen off and rubbed off, creating a beautiful scene with a tasteful appearance. An interesting accent on this Tansu is the repaired lower right corner of the right sliding door. Rusted tin has been wrapped around it, giving it a wabi-sabi sensibility. We have carefully and meticulously maintained it so as not to spoil its beautiful appearance over time. Sliding doors have been made to open and close smoothly. The entire furniture has been washed with water and disinfected. You can use it with peace of mind. The furniture is in very good condition with no insect infestation. From this Tansu, I feel the spirit of Wabi-Sabi, the Japanese philosophy of finding beauty in imperfection and impermanence. It is the opposite of vulgarity, the beauty of modesty and modesty, the beauty of the unconventional. This is a unique and very rare item. Weight approx. 60 kg.
