About the Item

This vintage cabinet was crafted in the Early Showa Period (1926–). It was originally used as a traditional Japanese kitchen cabinet, or Mizuya Tansu, designed to store tableware and cooking utensils efficiently and beautifully. Made from Japanese cypress (Hinoki), the wood has gracefully aged over time, developing a natural patina that brings warmth and character. Its surface shows subtle variations that reflect decades of quiet use. The glass sliding doors provide a practical and elegant way to display and protect cherished items such as ceramics or ornaments. Below them, multiple drawers offer generous storage, while the addition of a single-hinged door compartment brings a unique touch, slightly different from standard Mizuya Tansu designs. Built using traditional frame-and-panel construction (kamochi-zukuri), the cabinet combines strength with refined simplicity. Its understated form and calm presence allow it to blend seamlessly into both traditional and contemporary interiors. Cleaned and disinfected with a non-toxic solution. The doors and drawers move smoothly. As a vintage piece, minor scratches and marks may be present, each adding to its unique charm and the story it tells over time. It has been carefully inspected and remains in excellent antique condition, with natural signs of age that enhance its character. Weight :71.2lbs(32.3kg) Shipping Information We ship from Japan.
