About the Item

This vintage tea cabinet was crafted in the Early Showa Period '1926-'. Also known in Japan as a chadansu, the case is katsura, while the front is Japanese ash (tamo) with a gentle wave figure—a sought-after, relatively uncommon grain prized in Japanese cabinetry. Time-softened surfaces add a restrained wabi-sabi patina. Offering generous storage in a well-proportioned form, this cabinet is both practical and a fine expression of Japanese cabinetmaking. Its quiet presence and clean lines suit both traditional and contemporary spaces. Designed for display and storage together—open areas for objects, sliding-door bays that keep dust away, and three drawers for utensils and small essentials. Staggered shelves (chigaidana) help separate taller pieces from cups or small plates. Cleaned and disinfected with a non-toxic solution. The doors and drawers move smoothly. As a vintage piece, minor scratches and marks may be present, each adding to its unique charm and the story it tells over time. It has been carefully inspected and remains in excellent vintage condition, with natural signs of age that enhance its character. The interior dimensions are as follows (in inches, with centimeters in parentheses): Top sliding-door compartment W33.5" × D10.0" × H7.1" (85.0 cm × 25.4 cm × 18.1 cm) Open center (staggered shelves / chigaidana) Interior width: W33.5" (85.0 cm) Shelf depth: D10.4" (26.3 cm) Clear opening heights: Left H5.4" (13.7 cm); Right H3.1" (7.9 cm) Lower left sliding-door compartment W18.5" × D8.0" × H12.0" (46.9 cm × 20.2 cm × 30.4 cm) Lower right open bay W14.3" × D10.4" × H14.4" (36.2 cm × 26.3 cm × 36.7 cm) Drawer interior (each) W10.0" × D10.7" × H3.0" (25.4 cm × 27.1 cm × 7.6 cm) Weight :58.4lbs(26.5kg) Shipping Information We ship from Japan.
