Late 19th Century French Henri II Style Hand Carved Walnut Buffet Deux Corps

About the Item

This late nineteenth century French Henri II style walnut buffet deux corps features a hand carved cherub with wings at the crown. With solid paneled sides, the piece is divided into an upper and lower cabinet. The upper half is fitted with two doors flanked by diamond pointed paneled columns. The doors open to reveal an interior with two adjustable shelves. Below are two drawers of dovetail construction each with its own key used as a drawer pull. The crown of the cabinet is finished with carved acanthus leaf capitals and dentil molding. The lower half of the buffet deux corps is constructed in a similar fashion with two upper drawers fitted with iron drawer pulls and a lower cabinet with two doors and an interior adjustable shelf. Acanthus leaf capitals additionally detail the lower cabinet. The piece rests on classic bun feet. With a rich warm patina, this piece stands ready to grace any interior. The upper cabinet measures 34 inches in height, 35.5 inches in width and 15.25 inches in depth. The lower cabinet measures 36 inches in height, 43 inches in width and 19.25 inches in depth. c. 1890.
