19th Century French Louis XVI Style Demilune Side Cabinet with Marble Top

About the Item

Antique (late 19th century) side cabinet with marble top, otherwise known as a meuble a hauteur d' appui, has a warm, reddish brown patina, and is crafted from mahogany with rosewood or kingwood. It features a rouge marble top, crosshatch parquetry inlay and neoclassical gilt bronze mounts including lion and goddess masks, rosettes, reed-and-tie molding, and shell and scrolling foliate motifs. Interior measures 40.5 in wide and 30 in high, and is fitted with notched sides to accommodate two, original adjustable shelves. The rear panel is pierced with a handful of holes created to accommodate television and stereo cords.

Condition:

Wear consistent with age and use. Each panel has a handful or more noticeable scuffs and chips to the parquetry, and the side panels appear to have been relacquered. Each center door has a single stress crack. There are other minor chips.
