Masterpiece, French Hand-Carved Walnut China Cabinet of Unbelievable Quality
About the Item
We have been importing Antiques from Europe for over 30-years and never have we discovered another Antique that can measure up to the quality standards of this French Cabinet and it’s not even a close call. The carving, the fine details, the incredible thickness of the walnut, for everywhere you look, this antique French China Cabinet exudes unbelievable quality above and beyond what one would expect. When we first heard of this particular antique French China Cabinet, we suspected it might be something quite special, for it was in the antique dealer’s own home in Brittany. Always a very good indicator that an antique that at a minimum is very rare. We were told that this was probably made by a craftsman who was seeking their Certificat d’apttitude professionelle. In order to obtain your certificate, you must present a “Masterpiece” to the board of compagnons for inspection. Masterpieces may vary according to their specific aspirant's trade. If and when accepted, one will become a compagnon itinerant and receive a walking stick that reaches the height of their heart. Our professional opinion is that this cabinet is of such quality, that it must have been made by a master craftsman. Carved from the finest of French walnut and measuring in some places an astounding 3” thick and even the doors are 1.75”. We chose purposely not to restore the China Cabinet and only applied a thin cost of natural beeswax. There are a few small dark drips probably from someone’s drink on the left side and we can remove them for no additional charge and likewise there are a couple of scratches on the horizontal surface that can also be removed by steaming. For us personally, this Antique French China Cabinet is as good as it gets.
