About the Item

Magnificent notary's cartonnier / office filing cabinet in mahogany veneer with cardboard boxes covered in leather with iron gilding. The lower part opens with 2 doors and 2 drawers. The cartonnier consists of 21 compartments including 21 cardboard boxes covered in leather, all completely removable for simple and practical use. Each box has an opening button. The lockers are arranged as follows: 7 rows of 3 drawers. This superb office furniture has locks on the side uprights to lock the boxes and prevent them from coming out. This beautiful storage unit can be dismantled into 2 parts. This cartonnier is very elegant and will bring harmony and aesthetics to all offices. Louis Philippe Period 19th - France The cartonnier or office filing cabinet is a storage unit with a certain number of boxes. In each of them is inserted a cardboard box, hence the name of the piece of furniture, responsible for storing manuscripts, papers and various documents. If the cartonnier appeared under Louis XVI, it was under Louis Philippe that it became very widespread, particularly in law and notary offices. Required to contain important and, above all, confidential documents, these pieces of furniture will very quickly be equipped with central locking mechanisms like this cartonnier. The Louis-Philippe style is during the period called July Monarchy under the reign of Louis-Philippe from 1830 to 1848. It follows the Restoration style and will be replaced by the Second Empire style (also called Napoleon III style). It is a style of busy and well-to-do bourgeois, torn between the concern for their comfort and the desire to give themselves letters of nobility. The period of Louis-Philippe sovereignty coincides for its first part with the reign of Romanticism. In a second time, realism experienced a significant boom. In reaction against romantic sentimentality, this current seeks to depict reality as it is.
