About the Item

An English Charles II period cabinet or covered chest, circa 1660, profusely decorated in rectangle and diamond geometric panels inlaid with mother of pearl, bone and ebonized wood. The cabinet is in three separate stackable parts, making it easy to transport and to squeeze up the smallest of stairwells. The upper part contains a long drawer and two "secret" hiding drawers; the middle part contains a two side by side banks of four drawers behind two openable cupboard doors; and the third part at the bottom is a cabinet with a large drawer, below which are the large solid oak bun feet. This is a superb example of its type, and would have furnished an English nobleman's manor, if not a provincial court.
