About the Item

Fine quality antique Victorian mahogany inlaid display cabinet by Edwards and Roberts having a quality mahogany swan neck pediment with satinwood inlay above an inlaid frieze with swags and bows above a pair of astral glazed doors opening to reveal two adjustable shelves and the cabinetmakers name Edwards and Robert. One long drawer with satinwood inlay and original ornate brass ring handles standing on four elegant square tapering legs with spade feet and satinwood inlay united by a shaped mahogany satinwood crossbanded undertier Edwards and Roberts of Wardour Street, London became synonymous with high quality furniture producing items to a very high standard using the finest timbers. Their cabinet makers produced contemporary items as well as reproductions of earlier English and French pieces, favouring Georgian designs and satinwood marquetry. They were also known for adapting and restoring Fine quality items worthy of their stamp. By the late 19th century Edwards & Roberts was one of the leading firms of English cabinetmakers. This cabinet is a wonderful example of their quality craftsmanship. Measures: H 198cm W 91cm D 42.5cm Date 1880.
