About the Item

This Scandinavian cabinet is made solely of mahogany wood and dates back to the 1950s/1960s. It is incredibly well built and is capable of holding a good deal of weight as the cabinet sits upon a sturdy, solid mahogany frame. The wooden exterior is in immaculate condition considering its age. The interior has two storage compartments and shows very minor wear. There are 3 shelves and one shelf/drawer combination -- all of which can be adjusted according to desired use. All hardware is original and doors open/close smoothly. The botanical flora illustrations on the cabinet are from the 1920's second edition of the Swedish book 'C.A. Lindman's "Bilder ur Nordens Flora"'. Each individual picture has been wallpapered by hand. They are in very good condition showing only minor wear and slight color variances due to aging towards the edges of each illustration. The colors are still vibrant and papers show no loss. Cabinet retains original key that unlocks both doors. Cabinet Body: 31.5" H Cabinet Legs: 23.75" H

Josef Frank 'Gustav V' Cabinet in Rosewood, Svenskt Tenn, Sweden, 1950s
By Svenskt Tenn, Josef Frank
Located in The Hague, NL
This elegant rosewood cabinet was designed by Josef Frank for Svenskt Tenn in the late 1930's. In the Svensk Tenn archive's furniture book, Estrid Ericson (the founder of Svenskt Tenn) has made a pencil sketch of the cabinet and written "designed for the King", Gustaf V, likely for his 80th birthday in 1938. So this particular model 792 also became known as the Gustav V model. The rare cabinet on offer here was produced by Svenskt Tenn in Sweden in the early 1950s. The model was usually produced in pyramid mahogany, only a few pieces were made in rosewood. The cabinet has double doors, veneered in mirorred rosewood, with a solid oak interior with a total of 10 pull-out drawers. Brass key and round brass door hinges...
