Title: “Angular Tension” About The Piece: We designed this one of a kind titled work of functional art in the "Brutalist" style to be a cabinet of moderate size for multiple placement within a home or office with additional functionality with an adjustable shelf and two drawers. We also wanted the construction to relate to the highest level of traditional craftsmanship. From an artistic perspective, we wanted the sides and front of the cabinet to be a single interactive flowing sculptural element. We were initially inspired by the work of Paul Evans and his “City Scape series, but we wanted to take his work to a new level by emphasizing the interactive complexity between the 3, 4, and 5 sided boxes and the importance of the blacked out negative space between them. We further developed the connectivity amongst these boxes by applying various shades of gold, palladium, silver, aluminum and variegated metal gold leaf as well as Tamise. Essentially we were painting with the application of the metal leafs and its further decoration, utilizing various colors and black in a layered fashion similar to the layers of paint that Wassily Kandinski and Willem de Kooning would use in their work. A group of images, as the piece is being constructed, will be supplied to the perspective buyer upon request. Materials: All old stock Honduran mahogany, mahogany veneer , Richlite Black Diamond made from 100% FSA certified recycled paper, MDO, custom priming and ground layers, 23 karate, 23 karat red, 22 karat surface, 22 karat deep, 22 karat French Pale, 22 Karat Moon, 18 karat lemon, palladium, silver, aluminum, faux gold Italian, faux gold variegated, Tamise, Le Franc oil sizing, and moderately low VOC conversion varnish. Construction: Meticulous "Old World" craftsmanship was used in all aspects of the pieces design and construction to include; hand cut dovetails for case and drawers, hand cut mortise and tenon joints for the case's frame and panel systems and doors, and sliding dovetails for the drawer runners. Size: Side to Side 36”, Front to Back 18”, Height 29.25”

View Profile
As a wooden artifacts conservator, lecturer, and furniture scholar treating and studying furniture throughout the world’s history for over 30 years; a new age of creativity and design inspiration has blossomed forth. Mosart’s designs and their material usage strive to combine the forms, decorative treatments, and hand joinery utilized by the great craftsman of the past with the LEED Building and Green Practices of the 21st century. The decoration and sculptural elements used in our furniture derive their inspiration from the art movements and artists of the late 19th and 20th centuries including “Abstract Expressionism”, “Abstract Illusionism” Cubism, Constructivism, and Neo-Plasticism. Mosart is striving to elevate furniture back to an art form while also designing and building furniture that employs the use of recycled, up-cycled, and LEED certified materials. The furniture produced by Mosart are individual titled works of art that employ many traditional decoration techniques including gilding, carving, inlaying, and mosaic work. The furniture often incorporates “old stock” exotic and domestic wood and wood from naturally downed trees in its production. In our furniture, we are essentially painting and sculpting with wood where the juxtaposition of elements, the color, variance in grain, and the refractive qualities of the wood are used as an artist uses paint from his pallet or sculptural elements to create a piece for functional fine art.
