About the Item

Weight of Shadow Screen Cabinet by Atelier V&F Dimensions: Opened: D 25 x W 160 x H 168.5 cm. Closed: D 50 x W 80 x H 168.5 cm. Materials: Ash. Available in black or grey. Please contact us. The weightiness and the fine curves of the blocks which are characteristic of this collection show our admiration and appreciation of weight and volume, light and shadow. The clean-cut silhouettes of the long chair, the screen cabinet, and the side tables appear in an organic whole with the space itself in a short glance. The architectural language of H-shaped structures, the cutouts, and the rounded angles help to make it an extension of the space itself, giving it a calming quality. Atelier V&F was co-founded by Chen Furong and Vega Zaishi Wang in Shenzhen. Chen Furong graduated from the Shanghai Institute of Visual Arts, majoring in comprehensive design. And he started the design studios WUU and CHEN FURONG Studio. Vega Zaishi Wang graduated from the London College of Fashion and Central Saint Martin and founded the designer brand VEGA ZAISHI WANG. The designers’ professional background and artistic upbringing become the intrinsic character of Atelier V&F. Their expertise, professional knowledge, and years of experience in the design field are the fertile ground for the development and exploration of Atelier V&F that enable it to break the divide of territories and cultures, and with an inclusive narrative to interpret aesthetics and functionality. The two designers’ poetics of life and living, their respect for different materials’ true nature, and their unceasing pursuit of exquisite craftsmanship instill vitality into Atelier V&F’s works from artistic sculptures, installments, and space to practical and utilitarian objects. Vega’s intuitive riding on fashion’s romantic urge and flow and Furong’s philosophical perspective on practical design is combined in one artistic expression, making their works both detailedly practical and ceremonial. As a married couple, the duo instills powerful emotional strength to the work of Atelier V&F, trying to interpret and represent the non-utilitarian and simple beauty in a coldly rational and precise world.

Coil #5 Cabinet by Bram Kerkhofs
Located in Geneve, CH
Coil #5 cabinet by Bram Kerkhofs Dimensions: D80 x W40 x H225.6cm Materials: stainless steel, aluminium, elastic rope (natural rubber, polyethylene). Other dimensions are available. Coil is a modular cabinet system in which the ‘shell’ is formed completely around a base as a semi-transparent curtain from a vertical and parallel woven elastic rope. It forms the middle between a classic open rack and a display cabinet and can be used on all sides. Coil redefines the cabinet as an object in its use. To put something in or to get it out, the elastics have to be pushed aside. Coil is a good example to clarify my dealings with materials and their properties. To be able to attach the elastic rope, the rope must be stretched so that the rope becomes thinner. The top and bottom shelf of the cabinet are provided with a specific cut-out curve at the edge so that the stretched elastic can be inserted, after which it relaxes nicely in the recessed opening. Due to its modular construction, the coil can vary in height by 40 cm each. The inner shelves are slightly smaller. This keeps them away from the screen. Coil has a fixed rounded rectangular format of 40 x 80 cm (W x H) and can be combined with quarter circle modules with a radius of 40 and 80 cm. This makes it possible to build freestanding walls as a composition of curved and straight forms, as functional room dividers. Bram Kerkhofs (° 1977) is a Belgian furniture designer looking for new forms and methods to challenge the functionality and flexibility of a furniture piece. Educated as a goldsmith he is fascinated by connections, hinges, knots and joints, and especially by the functional opportunities they generate. His work is filled with mathematical principles resulting in intelligible algorithms to make them understandable. He draws particular attention to the relationship between construction and material, bringing simplicity into complexity, with a lasting alertness to the final function. This time-intensive design and development process results in innovative construction systems automatically expressing his signature. Many of his designs must be seen in a bigger picture, as parts to a whole, in which he explores the endless possibilities for links, combinations and variations. Bram wants to clarify complex constructions and gives the consumer and the spectator insight into his thinking process. That is why his work partly revolves around people, as the manipulators...
