About the Item

Description Chest chest made of wrought iron and embossed sheet metal. The sheet metal was cut from the solid by hot beating and carved with the chisel according to the development of the predetermined design. The keyhole where to insert the key is located in the center of the lid and is hidden by a concealed vent (technical secret). The one placed in the center on the front is fake (psychological secret). The lock occupies the entire inner surface of the lid and is of the multiple-latch type. By means of the thrust imparted by the rotation of the key, a complex mechanism of levers move all the push springs of the latch bolts fanned out on the four perimeter sides of the lock in synchrony and simultaneously. This particular multiple-latch locking device was invented in Germany (Bavaria) in the mid-1600s and later spread throughout Europe. The chest in question has a small compartment on the inside, lower left, protected by a lid also fitted with a lock with a push latch that was usually used to store metal coins and precious objects.
