About the Item

William and Mary chest of drawers hand-made in England in the mid 1600s using oak, and decorated with walnut and satinwood veneer and inlay. The chest is small and absolutely stunning both because of its decoration as well as its gorgeous patina. The chest features five inset drawers all showing beautiful, hand-made dovetail joints. The entire chest is covered with walnut veneer with different grains. Along the edges we find cross-banded veneer, used to give the illusion of a frame, on the drawer fronts, within the cross-banding, we find beautiful burl walnut veneer, whereas the sides as well as the top are decorated with book-matched veneer. On all sides, within the walnut veneer, we find additional floral decoration made with inset satinwood, and two different fruitwoods. The three different types of wood help create a colorful and very detailed decoration, that is also delicate. Overall this is a gorgeous and intricately-ornate piece that is still fully functional, despite being 400 years old. It will looks fantastic in an office, a foyer, or a bedroom. Its color and lines are timeless, and its relatively small size make it perfect for modern homes as well as historic ones. Regardless of where it is placed, this chest of drawers will be the center of attention and a guaranteed conversation starter.
