About the Item

A French Louis XV carved and painted wood commode, with subtle serpentine shaped body, from the 18th century. This antique chest from France has a shapely top with serpentine front and softly outwardly scalloped sides. The body of the case carries through the top shape, and a pair of half-sized drawers atop two full-sized drawers, all flanked within rounded front side posts. The drawers front are fitted with nice hardware pulls on each drawer-front (though not original). Each side has a recessed panel design, the skirting is scallop carved about three sides with playful volute accents at front bottom, and this piece is presented upon petite cabriole style legs at front, with block feet in rear. There is a newer painted finish in a soft blue and off-white palette with gray and taupe accents. This 18th century French Louis XV commode, placed in a living room, dining room, or bedroom, will make a wonderful storage piece, with surface space atop for your objects of affection to be nicely displayed.
