About the Item

Crafted in Lyon, France circa 1760, this elegant commode Lyonnaise exemplifies the refined craftsmanship of the Louis XV period. Built of solid cherrywood, the serpentine chest stands on graceful escargot feet over a scalloped apron, and features paneled sides and a molded top with a gentle serpentine front. The three hand-carved bombe drawers are adorned with recessed panels and dressed with the original gilt-bronze rocaille handles and matching escutcheons. The commode retains a warm and luminous walnut-toned patina that highlights the depth and movement of the cherry grain. Its harmonious proportions and curvaceous silhouette embody the restrained opulence of the Lyonnaise style. In excellent condition commensurate with age and use, this antique chest of drawers would bring timeless French elegance to a bedroom, living room, or entryway. Measures: 52.5" W x 26.75" D x 37" H.
