18th Century French Louis XV Commode, Chest of Drawers

About the Item

fine Louis XV chest of drawers from the 18th century. France Middle 18th century Dimensions: h x w x d: 82 x 124 x 62 cm (measured at the top) Description: Excellent Louis XV chest of drawers cambered on three sides. At the front we see four drawers in three rows, all fielded in the same manner by opposite grain directions and veneered diagonally in the field. The base is pulled down centrally. The handles and keyhole fittings of fire-gilt bronze contrast splendidly with the restrained wood. Additional hardware was omitted, as was contrasting marquetry. The curved pilaster strips form the feet in the extension at the front and lead gently over to the diamond-shaped veneered sides. The upper end is formed by the loosely laid red marble top. Neatly crafted piece of furniture in pleasing proportions. Condition: Refurbished condition. Shrinkage cracks in the drawer bottoms have been closed, the hardware has been cleaned and the shellac polish has been refreshed.
