About the Item

A fine 18th Century French Louis XV Commode with a Painted Finish. French Louis XV period five drawer commode with blue and grey tones and antique white painted finish. This beautiful commode is a wonderful scale and has a great patina. It features a serpentine or galbé facade. A fine and very stylish piece. Galbée and bombé techniques. This fabulous commode is a decorator's dream. Look at its Classic lines that hail from the South of France, where painted furniture has been in Vogue since the 18th century, when this incredible piece was made. Without the fuss and formality of Paris made furniture, commodes like this were made for the dining room originally, but today are more often used in bedrooms. Being such a visually stunning piece, it might be more likely used as show-piece in the living areas of a stylish contemporary or classic home. Equally at ease in a very modern glass and steel abode as it would be displayed on a stone floor, more akin to its Provincial origins. There are five drawers with shaped raised panels having intervening rails, bronze handles, and bronze keyhole plates. The commode is in original condition, but has been recently repainted and includes original hardware. All drawers currently open easily. We recommend periodically applying paraffin wax to keep the drawer wood sliding optimally. The strong wood makes this piece suitable for furniture that endures daily use. Also recommended is, lining the drawers for a more stylish and practical addition. The sides have raised panels conforming to the facade. Measures: 53" Wide x 26 1/2" Deep x 37 1/2" High This 18th Century Louis XV Style Commode with a galbée facade will enhance any setting.

Louis XVI Style Ormolu Mounted Commode with Italian White Marble Top
Located in Miami, FL
A very fine quality Louis XVI Style ormolu-mounted commode or chest of drawers with an Italian white marble top that is truly breathtaking! Intricate inlaid marquetry design throughout, the front and sides of the piece as well. Remarkable attention to detail in the brass mounts and other hardware! This beautiful Louis XVI style ormolu-mounted commode inlaid with marquetry and parquetry of rosewood, satinwood, possibly amaranth and painted wood inlays, some similarities to the model by Jean-Henri Riesener, Circa 1880. The breakfront white marble top above a conforming moulded cornice and a pair of large deep drawers inlaid with a central foliate, flanked by lattice and patera-decorated panels, the sides with similar panels, the angles with acanthus-cast volutes, on scrolled acanthus feet. The white marble top with striations and veins coming through. Generously sized, the two spacious drawers are perfect for storing your belongings. Would enhance any bedroom, living room, foyer, entryway or office and will have your guests conversing amongst one another about the pure detail and craftsmanship used in order to make it. Embodied with a sense of luxury and glamour, this Louis XVI Style commode or chest of drawers can be paired with a variety of other styles you may already have in your home or place of choosing! Truly a show stopper and will certainly be a conversation starter at your next gathering! Would look wonderful with modern artwork hanging above and an 18th or 19th Century Mantel Clock (choose from our collection) on top of the white marble to further accentuate this beautiful piece of functional furniture.
