18th Century French Walnut Louis XIV Commode
About the Item
Louis XIV commode band-made in Southern France in the mid 1700s using walnut and pegged constructions. The commode has beautiful color, patina, and character. The commode features three overlay drawers with beautiful handmade dovetail joints. The drawer fronts are decorated with hand carved molding around the handles and the escutcheons. The front of the chest shows a slightly serpentine shape which is repeated on the top. The top is made of two boards with ogee edges. The sides are made with flat chamfered panels framed by molding. The front corners are adorned with a hand carved inset column and the commode still sits on its original block feet.
This is a beautiful and very old chest with beautiful warm color and and character. As shown in the video the drawers all work very well and can be used on a daily basis. The commode has beautiful lines that will work well in a room that has modern as well as antique furniture.
