About the Item

A rare fine quality Chippendale period chest of drawers or dressing chest in beautifully figured mahogany. English, c. 1770. It is an extraordinary opportunity to own a highly practical piece of extraordinary craftsmanship that will seamlessly fit into classical and modern interiors alike. Why we like it We have chosen it for its sturdy proportions, superb quality and a great and rare choice of veneers. A very handsome and masculine piece of furniture. The top drawer fitted with various lidded compartments and a sliding easel mirror. Great quality brass handles, original feet, the key is present. All oak-lined drawers slide freely and smoothly, the piece is ready to be placed and enjoyed. Such simple and practical pieces intended for everyday use and 'done in a neat but not an expensive manner', to the same high quality standards as the more sophisticated examples, consisted a significant part of Thomas Chippendale's oeuvre.
