18th Century German Baroque Chest of Drawer, Commode Louis XV, Walnut, Marquetry

About the Item

Small antique baroque chest of drawers Palatinate Walnut Louis XV 18th century and later Dimensions: H x W x D: 79 x 95 x 55 cm Description: A three-leaf piece of furniture of unusually small dimensions standing on round squeeze feet. The three-leaf front of the chest of drawers is very recessed in the middle and also slightly curved towards the outside. The walnut veneer is interrupted by ribbon inlays of ash and fine, fire-shaded marquetry of maple. The original fittings as well as the striking crossbars complete the beautiful front view. Artful ribbonwork marquetry can be seen on the sides and the top of the piece of furniture. The colour of the wood here differs slightly from that of the furniture front, so it can be assumed that the veneer here was applied at a later date. The authentic patina and also the stress cracks testify to the fact that this veneer is already many decades, perhaps centuries old. The strong curve of the drawer fronts was sawn out of the solid material. Sure, this is the case with every curved baroque chest of drawers, but it is all the more admirable with such a strong sweep as here. Please also take a look at the photos of the back panel. The two outer boards each consist of only a single wide oak plank. The same applies to the bottom of the chest of drawers, which is also clearly visible in one of the photos. You can imagine what an old and thick oak trunk has given its wood for this... The drawer runners are constructed without a moulding. In order to allow the displaced air to escape when the drawer is pushed in, the sides of the drawers have been slightly deepened in places with a roughing plane. An interesting technique. This can also be seen in some of the photos. Condition: Restored condition, preserving the patina. The locks work, a key is present.
