About the Item

18th Century, Italian Baroque Veneering and Inlays Wood Commode This elegant and refined commode was crafted in Piedmont, Italy, in the first half of the 18th century, during the Baroque period. Veneered in walnut wood, the commode is richly decorated with inlays of boxwood, featuring elegant Baroque motifs with ramage and foliated volutes that create a striking visual effect. On the front, the four drawers are framed by inlaid boxwood borders, with mirrored panels finished in poplar burl. The handles and lock escutcheons are in burnished bronze. The bands of the piece that separate the drawers are also in burl. The sides are decorated with mirrored walnut wood panels, boxwood inlays, and burl. The commode rests on four shapely, curved feet. A particularly rare and unusual feature is the movement of the front, concave in the center and convex towards the lateral ends. The rounded and high-quality uprights are inlaid with geometric patterns. The top has a flowing, shaped profile that creates a sense of sinuosity and movement. The rounded edge is lacquered in black. The decoration includes a double fillet in boxwood that forms a veneered frame in walnut wood. Large fields of burl interspersed with walnut wood are bordered by boxwood inlays, creating geometric elements and phytomorphic decorations. The various hues of the wood species create a play of light and shadow, giving the piece an exceptional elegance and great decorative effect. Due to its exquisite craftsmanship, compositional elegance, and pleasing dimensions, this commode can easily be placed in any room of your home, such as the bedroom, study, entrance, or living room. 18th century, Italian Policrome Lacquered Wood Chest of Drawers This small and elegant chest of drawers was made in Genoa, northern Italy, around the middle of the eighteenth century. This model of dresser is inspired by the models that spread in France in the Louis XV period and to which all the cabinet makers were immediately inspired. It consists of four drawers, of which two smaller upper. It has a wooden structure entirely lacquered in light ocre decorated with floral and foliate decorations and compositions of still life of fruit in shades of red. The handles and mouthpieces of the locks are in finely chiseled burnished bronze, typical of the Louis XV era. The molded top is in Rosso Francia marble, a marble from abroad that at the time was very precious and expensive. The dresser has the front and the sides moved by the move line, legs thin and slightly curved. The front legs are embellished with burnished bronze chiseled tips shaped like acanthus leaf. This piece of furniture is quite rare because of its small size that make it easy to fit into any environment.
