18th century, Italian Half-moon Lacquered Wood Chest of Drawers

About the Item

18th century, Italian Half-moon Lacquered Wood Chest of Drawers This refined neoclassical half-moon chest of drawers was made in Turin, towards the end of the 18th century. Entirely lacquered, it is decorated with reliefs and pad applications. A tablet is a technique used for bas-relief decoration of furniture. The pad is made with fine putty mixed with glue that was applied to the furniture to decorate them. The top is in grey Bardiglio marble, characteristic of the Piedmontese area, which gives greater warmth and aesthetic softness to the dresser as well as durability to the floor itself. The chest of drawers is decorated with reliefs in the shape of circles and phytomorphic elements characteristic of neoclassicism. In the underside there are grooved and pad elements that create a geometric frame pattern. The cabinet consists of three parts, two side doors and front drawers. Between the sections there are slightly projecting pilasters, with neoclassical ornaments, and each element is surrounded by a frame in pink and ivory lacquer. The background instead has a characteristic blue green color, which is often found in Turin furniture decorated with tablets. These include some artifacts preserved at the Castle of Masino (in the province of Turin), the sumptuous home of one of the most illustrious Piedmontese families, that of the Valperga. The side doors, which open outwards, conceal a compartment divided by a floor. On the front, the cabinet has a small drawer in the underside band and two more ambi lower drawers. The circular nozzles of the locks are in golden metal. The four legs, composed of circular elements and an inverted cone trunk, are grooved and lacquered. It is an elegant piece of furniture and thanks to its small size, it is easily adaptable to any environment, ancient and modern, whether in a living room or study in the entrances or bedrooms.

18th century, Italian Policrome Lacquered Wood Chest of Drawers This small and elegant chest of drawers was made in Genoa, northern Italy, around the middle of the eighteenth century. This model of dresser is inspired by the models that spread in France in the Louis XV period and to which all the cabinet makers were immediately inspired. It consists of four drawers, of which two smaller upper. It has a wooden structure entirely lacquered in light ocre decorated with floral and foliate decorations and compositions of still life of fruit in shades of red. The handles and mouthpieces of the locks are in finely chiseled burnished bronze, typical of the Louis XV era. The molded top is in Rosso Francia marble, a marble from abroad that at the time was very precious and expensive. The dresser has the front and the sides moved by the move line, legs thin and slightly curved. The front legs are embellished with burnished bronze chiseled tips shaped like acanthus leaf. This piece of furniture is quite rare because of its small size that make it easy to fit into any environment. Very decorative due to its sinuous lines and its fine decoration, it is suitable both next to antique furniture...
