18th Century Italian Neoclassical / Louis XVI Commode

About the Item

Neoclassical commode hand-made in Italy in the late 1700s using walnut and decorated with walnut veneer. This is an absolutely stunning chest of drawers both because of its lines and color and because of the perfect placement of veneer of different grain and color that decorates the chest throughout. Whether you are looking at the sides, the top or even the legs, this chest is adorned by alternation of cross-banded, simple and burl veneer. All these different grains add depth and patterns to a very straight-lines piece of furniture, making it elegant and fun. The commode features three fully-functional overlay drawers with ogee edges and beautiful, large, dovetail joints. The drawer fronts are decorated with cross-banded veneer framing gorgeous walnut burl veneer. The sides are flat and decorated with veneer and the top shows straight edges and corners, and it, too, it decorated with cross-banded veneer. The legs are original, tapered and also decorated. Overall this is a gorgeous commode that combines functionality, elegance and decoration all in one piece. It will be a great addition to any household and this is the type of piece that will follow you anywhere in your future homes and adventures.
