About the Item

A rare and impressive pair of baroque chests of drawers from southern Germany, dating from 1750/60. These exquisite pieces of furniture combine masterful craftsmanship and timeless elegance and are a true highlight for lovers and collectors of antique furniture. These baroque chests of drawers are characterised by their high-quality workmanship and the fine cherry wood veneered on softwood. The fire-gilded original fittings and original locks emphasise the authenticity and historical value of these pieces of furniture. Baroque chests of drawers from the mid-18th century are known for their lavish ornamentation and curved lines, reflecting the opulent style of the era. The Baroque style, which originated in Italy and quickly spread throughout Europe, is characterised by its dramatic and emotional expressiveness. Pieces of furniture from this period were not only functional utilitarian objects, but also an expression of wealth and social status. The curved shapes and richly decorated fittings of these chests of drawers are typical of the Baroque style. The use of cherry wood veneered on softwood gives the pieces a warm, inviting appearance and emphasises the natural beauty of the wood. The fire-gilded original fittings are not only a sign of luxury, but also evidence of the high level of craftsmanship of the artisans of the time. Such fittings were often produced in elaborate processes and are rarely found today in such well-preserved condition. These chests of drawers are in remarkably good condition and retain their original fittings and locks, making them a rare and sought-after rarity. Excellently cared for, they show only minimal signs of use, emphasising the character and history of this antique furniture.
