18th Century Walnut Commode from the Rhone Valley

About the Item

This lovely piece is the quintessential example of a well crafted French commode. The proportions are pleasing, the details are superb with carving on side panels and the front apron. The pulls and key hole escutcheons are oversized and impressive. This would be a very important piece of furniture in any style room. This piece comes from the Rhone Valley. Please note repairs have been made to the left side of the chest. One repair was done previously in France, the other done recently in the US. See photo showing wood added on the inside of the chest for additional support for the repairs. The function of the drawers are not affected.

Walnut and burled walnut. In 1700s France, the commode was considered the finest piece of furniture in the chateau. It was also placed in the most important areas so it could be seen.
