About the Item

BIEDERMEIER PARCEL-EBONIZED BIRCH ARCHITECTURAL CHEST OF DRAWERS Cica early-to-mid 19th century Item # 310EDO04Q A lovely Biedermeier commode with a powerful architectural form. It features a triangular pediment projecting from the overall rectilinear top supported over ebonized columns flanking a series of drawers raised over a scroll-cut shaped base on ebonized molding shims. The golden hue of the Karelian birch veneers makes a powerful contrast against the ebonized elements, the woods carefully chosen to allow the grain to flow seamlessly from the base through the drawer through the drawer blade and so on throughout the facade. All drawers are dovetailed in the typical manner with pine secondary woods throughout. A powerful presentation. Measurements: 39" H x 19 3/4" D x 36 5/8" W Condition Report: Various scuffs and abrasions to the surface throughout, light finish losses and minor seams; tiny filled nail holes in molding around top; later blocking to the base including the back brace added during the 20th century; minor veneer losses, rubbing/chipping/wear to the scroll cuts around the feet; losses to the ebony molding beneath the feet. A very nice presentation.
