19th Century Country French Petite Commode, Nightstand
About the Item
19th Century Country French petite commode ~ nightstand will make the perfect finishing touch for your classic, casual decor! Ideal to use in virtually any room between windows, in a seating group or of course as a bedside companion, its three drawers are ideal for keeping smaller items organized. The top is beveled and contoured to follow the archer's bow shape of the drawer facade, a style called en arbalette by the French. The exquisitely contoured facade has been adorned with shell and floral volutes on each end pointing to the elaborately cast brass key guards at the centers. The apron underneath is a work of art unto itself, centered with a scallop shell in the form of a basket of flowers for an intriguing look, flanked by arches that are carved with shell motif leading the eyes to the front two of four elegant cabriole legs. The front legs are carved with pineapple, foliate and intertwined scrollwork, leading the eyes down to the sculpted animal's paw feet. An excellent choice for the discriminating decorator!
