About the Item

A stately and beautifully proportioned French Empire commode, crafted in the early 19th century, circa 1810–1830. This classic piece features a rich flame mahogany veneer, a hallmark of Empire furniture, showcasing deep, bookmatched grain patterns across the drawer fronts. The commode is topped with its original or period gray marble slab, cool in tone and subtly veined, providing a refined contrast to the warmth of the wood. It is fitted with three full-length drawers and a shallow frieze drawer, all retaining their original brass key escutcheons and Empire-style cast bronze pulls. Architectural details include columns with gilt bronze capitals and bases flanking the drawers, squared legs, and a rectilinear silhouette that speaks to Napoleonic neoclassical influence. The piece is both elegant and grounded, making it ideal for traditional interiors, or as a commanding contrast in more modern or eclectic settings.
