19th Century Pair of Marble Top Bombe Shaped Chests or Commodes

About the Item

A very rare pair of 19th Century marble top mahogany chests or commodes of bombe form. This gorgeous pair of items are of exceptional quality, finely hand carved, crossbanded, quarter veneered and ormolu mounted throughout with beautifully rich patination and grain. The stunning moulded, serpentine Rosso Levante marble top of rectangular form is raised over two long cockbeaded drawers with fabulous quarter veneered detail and all fitted with finely cast decorative ormolu swan neck handles and escutcheons. Flanked with applied foliate ormolu appointments to the corners and two further quarter veneered panels to each side above an elegantly simple serpentine apron with further ormolu detail, terminating on gracefully, tapering outswept leg with finely cast sabot foot.
