20th Century Louis XV Style Commode Joseph Stockel

About the Item

Significant commode in the style of Louis XV. After Joseph Stockel and Guillaume Benneman. Piano black polished veneer on solid oak and pine. Exceptionally fine engraved and richly moulded bronze Appliqués. Right angled body. In the bowed front can be found two wide doors with recessed contents, flanked by conical, grooved legs, ending in sabots. The front and side panels are decorated with round paintings, portraying the allegorical scenes! Richly decorated with bronze in the form of draped material. Three friezes from acanthus leaf fittings. The brass work from contrepartie consists of ranked leaf work. Literary authorization 19th century European Furniture- Christopher Payne Page 98. From the most significant craftsmen of the 18th Century, Joseph Stockel (1743-1802) and Guillaume Benemann (1750-1811) who received a commission from Louis 16th, and Marie Antoinette to create three commodes for the “Gaming Salon” at Chateau Fontainebleau, that were delivered in 1786.
