American Federal Chest of Drawers in West Indies Mahogany, Baltimore, circa 1835

About the Item

From the Federal period, a very beautiful American Neoclassical chest of drawers in fine West Indies mahogany with two overhanging small drawers supported by turned and reeded columns above three large drawers, all with round wooden pulls. The sides are paneled and the chest rests on the original turned feet. The handsome wood grains are showcased in the fine design and craftsmanship displayed throughout. Baltimore, Maryland, circa 1835. Comes with working locks and one key. Restored in our workshop with French-polish; drawers operate smoothly. A beautiful Danish Empire or Biedermeier chest in fine West Indies mahogany with four drawers of staggered heights. The handsome figuring of the grain is given added movement by the flat cut contiguous veneer moving horizontally across the front of the chest.. The sides also have a flat cut veneer in one piece that was at the intersection of the huge branch or fork in the tree showing the knot and the concentric circles of the grain radiating out from the knot. Chest offers a pedestal top and rests on turned front feet, with diamond-shaped inlaid satinwood key insets. The top and bottom drawers have sculpted fronts. The secondary wood is pine as is traditional in Scandinavian cabinetry. Denmark, circa 1830. Note: You should always request a shipping quote.
