About the Item
A handsome and unusually small Louis XVI chest in mahogany offering four drawers with bowed front, and featuring a fluted tambour molding on the top drawer resting under characteristically 18th century dental molding. Scandinavia fell in love with the French court of Louis XVI & emulated the style during the reign of Swedish King Gustave. Denmark, which had strong trading ties with England, made a stylistic departure by combining the lighter, simpler aesthetic of English cabinetry with distinctly French characteristics. French-polish finish. Denmark, circa 1780.
Works very well in a bedroom as a nightstand, or in an entrance as a console!

- Condition:Repaired: minor restoration to replace or repair missing or damaged veneers done in the best of conservancy practices. Some of the drawer runners may have been rebuilt to allow drawers to operate smoothly French polished. Refinished. Wear consistent with age and use. Condition of chest is very good w/ minor wear consistent w/ age & use. Comes w/ 2 antique keys: one key works on top drawer & second key works on bottom three drawers. All drawers glide well. Chest has a beautiful, rich dark mahogany color & patina.
