About the Item

Beautiful subtle Baroque art cabinet. Originating from Southern Europe. 19th century. Standing on ball feet. In exceptionally good condition, we don't often come across them like this. Inlaid with several fantastic woods, including ebony (black in color). Tortoise shell and bone have also been used. An art cabinet (or Kunstkammer) was used from the 16th century to collect and display special objects. It served as a kind of private museum for wealthy collectors, princes or scholars. In such a cabinet, works of art, scientific instruments, exotic objects, minerals, fossils and curiosities were kept. The purpose was both aesthetic and educational: to impress visitors, but also to symbolically arrange and understand the world and nature. Everything works as it should. No missing pieces of inlays. All but 1 drawer lock are working properly.
